The Knock.

It was a warm and bright November afternoon, mind you, I live in suburban Winter Park, Florida. I was cleaning the apartment and getting ready to attend class later that day, when I received a knock on the door. I looked through the peephole and saw a gentlemen standing there. To be honest, I typically don’t answer to solicitors, but something in me, my heart, told me to open the door. He didn’t allow one word to come out of my mouth before he began telling me the typical “please give me the opportunity to…” spiel.

That’s when it all began.

This is Yenifer Peña Cruz. She is 16 years old, from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, and she is my sponsored child

I became a member of Children International in hopes that I could make a difference in someone’s life. I am helping to provide Yenifer aids such as medical and dental care, clothing, emergency food, and other essentials that most of us take for granted. I want to be able to bless her with opportunities that I was fortunate enough to be born into. I may not have a lot myself, but I know the funds that will be going towards her education and other necessities would probably been spent in useless things. Looking out for those in need have always been important to me. I love to serve others. To be able to do that for Yenifer, is a tremendous honor.
